A particularly satisfying Park composition looking across St Ives harbour, the painting dominated unusually by 4 small yachts rather than Park’s more common subject matter of the St Ives fishing luggers.

In Yachts in St Ives Harbour we see West Pier where the St Ives RNLI station now resides, and the Victorian terraces above; the undeveloped hill side above St Ives a poignant reminder of a how the town looked in these pre-war years.

The painting is a great demonstration of Park’s innate ability to capture the dazzling effect of light, and the reflecting colour and constant movement of water. His contemporary, Sven Berlin, described Park as ".... one of the best of English colourists and unsurpassed as a painter of light: He painted like an angel – simply cathedrals of light."
